Facebook plans to invest 300 million over three years globally, to bolster newsrooms of local news stations and make amends for helping to spread “fake news.”
“They’re not beefing up newsrooms to help journalism. They’re buying silence,” Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains.
“You’re not going to run the story about how we sold private messages from our users to corporations. You’re not going to cover the story of how, oops, we just leaked tens of millions of people’s private data.”
