Israel begins enforcing law banning migrant couples from having romantic relationships with one another

Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority is defending in court the ban on foreign workers forming romantic relationships.

The authority insists that one partner leave Israel as a condition for extending the work visa of the other one, Haaretz said.

In the 13 cases over the past year in which the Worker’s Hotline filed an appeal, the authority backed down and allowed both partners to stay in Israel.

However, after another appeal was launched this week, the authority filed a response to the Jerusalem tribunal.
